Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Infrastructure Planning, Pertamina University learns about environmental control and management engineering to support sustainable, inclusive development to support energy industry activities.

Supporting energy industry activities refers to the vision of Pertamina University as an energy-oriented university and specifically supports the activities of PT. Pertamina Persero as an energy industry. The role of environmental engineering here is how environmental engineering is applied so that the energy industry has a low emission/pollution level so that it can reduce the pollutant load on the environment.

The Environmental Engineering Study Program has various activities related to the achievement of the tridharma of higher education including education, research, and community service activities. In addition, the Environmental Engineering Study Program is also active in student activities, both programmed through the Directorate of Student Affairs such as Light-UP, Lead-UP, Pop-UP, etc., as well as activities organized by the Environmental Engineering Student Association (HMTL) such as UPstract , Spread Knowledge, LKMM, Sustaination, and other self-development activities, including talent development, career, organization, and scientific fields.

Why Environmental Engineering Department?

The advantages of Pertamina University’s Undergraduate Environmental Engineering Study Program are as follows:

a. The curriculum has been designed based on KKNI with level 6 qualifications in the academic education family and refers to ABET international accreditation. The curriculum is also designed to provide specific characteristics of environmental engineering in the field of environmental control and management engineering, especially to support the activities of the energy industry.

b. The Environmental Engineering Study Program is expected to form a profile of graduates who have the following characteristics:

  • Able to design environmental management engineering to produce solutions to environmental sanitation and pollution control problems.
  • Able to manage environmental quality through an environmental management system, including occupational safety and health and energy industry activities.
  • Professionals who are able to think critically and ethically achieve their professional goals.

c. Provision of special skills and knowledge regarding Energy and the Environment, Waste-Based Energy, Introduction to Energy Technology and Business as the basis for an introduction to the formation of various energy sources, energy development ranging from exploration, exploitation to environmentally-based energy and energy businesses.

d. The curriculum is equipped with courses that can hone students’ skills in critical thinking, creative thinking, and thinking for complex problems (complex problem solving) as provisions for facing various challenges in the future.

e. Student-centered learning and project-integrated learning-based learning systems that integrate academic learning in the classroom with student involvement in the practical world through practical work/internships. In addition, the Environmental-Based Interpreted Project (Capstone Design) course is given to hone the abilities/roles of environmental engineering students in formulating and solving problems in the engineering design field. Proximity to industry, the availability of facilities belonging to PT. Pertamina is to be used by students in exploring learning activities as well as for research purposes, as well as the development of knowledge from guest lecturers/teaching assistance from PT Pertamina practitioners who will help students to understand the real conditions in the industry.

Course Description

  • First Year: Students will study basic science foundations: basic physics, basic chemistry, calculus, introduction to environmental engineering and climate change, as well as an introduction to energy technology and business. In the first-year students will also study scientific paper writing, English, critical thinking, and creative solution thinking.
  • Year Two: Students will study engineering foundations related to environmental engineering. Environmental engineering courses will be introduced in the second year.
  • Third year: Students will study fundamental courses in environmental engineering which include: waste management and treatment, pollution prevention, environmental systems and design, and environmental law and policy.
  • Year Four: Students will study and implement learning into environment-based integrated projects, practical work, and final assignments. In this fourth year, students can take elective courses related to Water and wastewater treatment engineering, solid waste and air pollution management, and industrial risk control.
  • The courses of Pertamina University Environmental Engineering Study Program include Energy and environment, energy industry waste processing, wastewater building system planning, solid waste treatment, air pollution control, environmental biotechnology, remediation techniques, environmental impact analysis (AMDAL), Environmental policies and laws, Occupational health and safety and environmental protection, etc.
